Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this magazine. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this magazine. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for editorial review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

General Formatting Guidelines (Applies to All Sections)

File Formats: Microsoft Word (.docx)

Font: Times New Roman, 11 pt, 1.5 spaced

 Referencing Style: Vancouver (numbered)

Figures/Tables: integrate into the manuscript

Ethics: Follow COPE and ICMJE guidelines for research integrity

Plagiarism: Originality is required. Authors should check for plagiarism

Author Information: Full name, affiliation, email and short biography with photograph

Photo Quality Guidelines and Formats

·         Resolution: Minimum 300 dpi for print quality

·         File Formats: JPEG, TIFF, or PNG (preferred for line art)

·         Color Mode: RGB for digital submissions; CMYK for print-ready artwork

·         Size: Minimum width of 1200 pixels; larger images encouraged

·         Compression: Avoid excessive compression; maintain clarity and detail

·         Captions: A descriptive caption of 50 words or less

·         Permissions: Ensure consent for identifiable individuals; provide copyright clearance if required

·         Naming Convention: Use explicit file names (e.g., AuthorName_Figure1.jpg)

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
  • Author Information: Full name, affiliation, email and short biography with photograph should be provided in the main article file.

A. From The Editors Desk

I. Messages from the Editor and Advisors

·         Length: 500–1000 words

·         Format: Opinion-style, reflective or policy-oriented

·         Include author name, affiliation, and contact details

·         References: APA or Vancouver style citation of sources

II. Letters to the Editor

·         Length: 300–600 words

·         Tone: Constructive, respectful, and relevant to FRIS initiatives

·         No more than 5 references

·         Include full author details

 

B. Activities and Announcements of FRIS Charity UK

I. Postgraduate (PhD) Scholarships, Travel Fellowships, Collaborative Research

·         Length: 1000–1500 words

·         Content: Programme objectives, outcomes, and impact

·         Tables/figures may be included

·         Acknowledgments: Mention funding sources and contributors in case of multiple authors

II. Scientific Advances Supported by FRIS

·         Structured abstract: 200 words max

·         Main text: 2000 words max

·         Figures: High-resolution (300 dpi, JPEG/TIFF)

·         References: Vancouver style

III. Messages from the FRIS Community

·         Informal reflections on teaching and research:1000 words max

·         May include photographs (with consent of subjects)

C. Contributions of FRIS to research in South Asian subcontinent

I. Funding MSc Research

·         FRIS MSc Scholarships: the programme, its purpose and significance

·         Project reports: 1500 word max

·         Format: introduction, methodology, outcomes, and impact

II. Supporting Marginalized Communities

·         Challenges in identifying marginalised communities in the subcontinent (1500 word max)

·         Encouraging marginalised communities to undertake biomedical research.

·         Creating funds specifically to support research by marginalised communities.

III. Trainee Participation in International Meetings

·         Conference reports: less than 1000 words

·         Include event details (state where, when and the topic of conference) and group photos

·         Details of research presentations funded by FRIS Charity UK.

 

 

D. Contributions from readers: • Laboratory experiences • Reviews • Essays • Short stories • Thoughts for the day

I. Laboratory Experiences

·         Short reports, 1000–1500 words

·         Include methods, challenges, and lessons learned

II. Reviews

·         Critical reviews of books, articles, or topics

·         Length: 2000–3000 words

·         References: Minimum 15, Vancouver style

III. Essays

·         Reflective or argumentative, 1500–2000 words

IV. Short Stories

·         Creative writing, 1000–1500 words

·         Must be original and unpublished

V. Thoughts for the Day

·         Inspirational notes, max 300 words

E. Artist’s Corner

I. Nature and wildlife Photographs, Paintings, Sketches

·         Only high-resolution images: JPEG/TIFF, 300 dpi

·         Optional: provide a brief biography (less than 100 words) and high-resolution photograph

II. Poetry

·         Original poems in any Indian subcontinent language

·         Must include English translation

·         Length: Up to 40 lines per poem

·         Provide a brief biography (less than 100 words and high-resolution photograph (optional)

 

F. News from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Development Fund (ADF)

I. Coordination with AMU Administration

·         Purpose for the creation of ADF: up to 1500 words

·         Challenges in fund raising for ADF

·         A representative from AMU to join FRIS Board of Advisors and co-ordinate.

II. Support for AMU Research

·         Describe how ADF will help AMU biomedical research. Up to 2000 words

·         Include detailed plans and the required infrastructure

·         Due diligence and physical inspection with appropriate audit

 

G. Announcements and Advertisements

I. Conferences, Workshops and Training Opportunities

·         Submit details in structured format: Title, Date, Venue, Contact

·         Word limit: 300 words

II. Recruiter and Jobseekers

·         Include job title, description, qualifications, application deadline

·         Word limit: 300 words

III. Employment in FRIS Charity UK

·         Structured job posting: up to 300 words

IV. Charitable Partner Contributions

·         Reports: up to 300 words

V. Commercial Advertisements

·         Submit camera-ready artwork (PDF/JPEG)

·         Size specifications provided by editorial office

·         Word limit: 300 words
