Dr. Nabeela Khanam
Dr. Nabeela Khanam is an energetic and ambitious young researcher working at the Department of TB and Respiratory Disease, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. She is employed as a researcher by the University Grant Commission on a scheme for ‘Women in Science’.
She earned her Ph.D. in Neuroscience, her doctoral research focused on the Role of Shh-Gli1 and BMI1 signaling pathways in Alzheimer’s Disease. Her work explored how dysregulated cellular signaling contributes to neurodegeneration, providing valuable insights into potential molecular targets for therapeutic intervention.
Currently, her research centres on investigating the role of Sonic Hedgehog (Shh) signaling in cigarette-induced Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Dr. Nabeela’s work aims to bridge this critical gap by examining how aberrant activation of developmental signaling pathways contributes to airway remodeling, inflammation and disease progression in COPD. By unravelling these molecular mechanisms, she hopes to identify novel therapeutic targets that may offer more effective, disease-modifying approaches for patients suffering from chronic respiratory conditions.
